Driving with more than 12 points

This is the General Lounge for most things to do with our roads. Indeed, most of us, at some time, use the road system in some way. With this in mind, users may post their experiences or observations here.

Driving with more than 12 points

Post: # 2500Post Speedy »

Driving with more than 12 points

Interesting story this.
There are many people that are driving on our roads with much more than the 12 point limit.
When you get 12 points on the licence, you normally have your driving licence taken away.
However, many can and do drive with more.
In fact, there is someone with over 60 points and are still driving.
Magistrates are allowed to let people keep their licence to drive if to lose it would mean excessive hardship.
There are over 10,000 people driving with more than the 12 point limit in the UK.

It boils down to how much hardship placed on those who would be affected by taking their licences away.
If someone has their driving licence took away will they be able to put food on the table and all that.
You just can't say that if you lose your driving licence you will lose your job and not provide for the family.
The reason is you would claim benefits to live.
However, some have complicated circumstances, so the magistrates and judges will have to take that into account.
