Speed Awareness Courses

This is the General Lounge for most things to do with our roads. Indeed, most of us, at some time, use the road system in some way. With this in mind, users may post their experiences or observations here.

I have heard that there are many who run these Speed Awareness courses and they are giving out the wrong information.
For starters many of them are saying that you get better fuel economy in third gear at 30 miles an hour. This is false information.
We were always taught use the correct gear for the load so if the car is not labouring get it in the highest gear possible.
I got this from two people in different parts of the UK.

They are a pile of crap.
Most have no idea what they are talking about and they have no idea how an engine works.
I suspect most of the staff have just been plucked off the dole.

I would rather go on a speed awareness course than pay a fine or get points.
Stay safe everyone!
