Winter Motoring and Car Checks

This is the General Lounge for most things to do with our roads. Indeed, most of us, at some time, use the road system in some way. With this in mind, users may post their experiences or observations here.

Winter Motoring and Car Checks

Winter Motoring and Car Checks

Does anyone here check their cars out in the winter or do people wait until its too late?
I check the tyres have plenty of tread and have the correct pressure.
I make sure there are no leaks and top up the fluids like the washer bottle with a winter cleaning solution to stop it freezing over.
I carry two blankets in the boot whenever I can just in case I am out in the countryside and break down.
The mobile phone and charger is always maintained to make sure that in any accident I can call for help quickly.
Must admit though I don't carry a shovel in the heavy snow even though it makes sense to, there is just no space for that.
Luckily, the winters in the UK have been mild lately but you can get a spell of bad weather at any time.
Actually, we shouldn't just check out our motor cars for the winter we should make sure we do certain weekly checks and in some cases, daily checks.
I always check my lights regularly.

I just do visual checks daily but I do a few extra ones for the winter.
I don't carry any extra equipment than normal either.
It may be ok for those who do loads of miles regularly but I only drive locally.

I don't do very much driving nowadays.
If there is loads of ice and snow on the ground I might not even go out of the house :D
I do the usual level checks, light checks and look at the tyres but that's it.

Its funny how a bit snow can clog the whole road system
I just have a quick look at my car and never bother with too many things.
I do check the oil every now and again though.
I don't know why because my car uses hardly any oil 8-)

Best advice is don't even go out of the house when there is ice and snow on the ground - simples!

My car just seems to start and then it goes.
I think I really need to start checking the car a bit more now though.

I don't know anyone who makes any special checks on their cars in the winter.
They just seem to get in their cars and drive off trusting to luck
