Half of the MOT's Faults are Avoidable
Half of the MOT's Faults are Avoidable
A few tips to same money when your MOT is due.
In the UK we have to test our cars every year to check whether they are roadworthy or no.
MOT stands for Ministry of Transport.
Cars under 3 year old are exempt.
It has been worked out that 38% of cars fail their MOT's.
Lights and signalling are the most common faults for failure.
Simple checks on lights, wiper blades and tyres can save time and money.
However, most MOT testing stations will give you a free retest should your car fail but why waste time and possibly money?
You can test your car up to one month before its due date.
So, about six weeks before hand you should start checking your car for simple faults.
Once you have discovered the fault you will have time to shop around for either cheap replacement parts and a cheap deal to have other repairs fixed.
If you take your car to the garage for an MOT, many will give you a ring and ask if you want an odd bulb or tyre replacing if they find them faulty.
You will then be held to ransom and have to pay their rates and that may cost you more than if you found them yourself and took action in advance.
Certain things can be tricky to spot or repair yourself like brakes or the exhaust system but that's why you should check in advance of the test.

Thanks for this Motor Mouth.
I will bear this in mind.
From now on I will check a few weeks before the MOT is due because I have failed on a head light before.
They claim they tried to contact me but I got no messages off them.
My car failed the MOT so I got the bulb changed and a free MOT at the same garage and it passed.
It was the time involved though.

That is sound advice thanks.
I have had very few problems with MOT's over the years but I think that making preparations before you visit the garage will make a difference. It is down to time for me but I can see how, by planning in advance, you can save money by either DIY or a friend for mates rates.

There's some very good tips there.
I have another tip for the MOT so here goes:
Most towns and cities have a testing station for their vehicles but they also do MOT's for anyone.
These council run places do not do repairs, they only test.
They have no interest in condemning your car for gain.
Some people are too naive think that the garages failing them because they are not roadworthy
I will spill the beans to those, they fail you to get business
So the point is, try the council run MOT stations as they will not want any other business from you.
They will either fail the car or pass it.

Interesting tip there Roller!
Its something I never thought of before but from now on I will.
Also I will start with the MOT a little early looking for faults myself first.
Failing the MOT on a side light is a bit bad.

Amazing how we overlook the MOT and take it all for granted.
Oh how we trust our garages to serve us well!

My son has paid around £300.00 every year for the last few years to get his old Rover through his MOT.
Mind you, it seems to be a reliable car and never lets him down and he does around 15,000 miles every year!
